Appearance: Johann is literally a being of gas. Although once human, this former appearance is unknown today. His current form is nothing but a white-gray, ectoplasmic gas that usually takes a somewhat humanoid shape with mental concentration on the doctor’s part. It can, however, take any shape he wants and without any mental coaxing is just a floating mist of whitish gas. On the other hand, Johann Krauss, with the help of former ally Trevor Bruttenholm, created a special suit that he can use in everyday life. The suit is reminiscent of an old, leathery diver’s suit; it is in fact a thick canvas containment suit crisscrossed with straps and numerous taps in its design, as well as a somewhat unique glass bowl for a head. Within the glass helmet part of the swirling mist of his form can be seen. The suit has a speaker design to allow his voice to radiate out unchanged by any mechanical devices, but is still slightly hollow sounding. Perhaps that’s just him.

Upon coming to Econtra, Johann has found that something very intriguing has happened to his ectoplasmic form. Krauss is now a mostly solid physical form, with only a small portion of his ectoplasm still gaseous in nature--and that must stay with him at all times, or when using his teleplasty, within a close proximity unless he goes into a trance-like state (which leaves his body vulnerable while he is away; essentially this is a form of astral projection--and since controlled by his mind, which is connected to the cuff, the object can no more do what his body can while conscious, aka no harm to others or self, no leaving the compound, etc). In essence this simply means that Krauss will always be seen within his containment suit. If he manages to get outside it, he would appear as a gaseous, humanoid form that is actually more solid than it looks. No visible hands, feet, nor a distinct face to the form. The cuff would appear on his left wrist just like anyone else.

Personality: Dr. Krauss is--was--a strictly by-the-books team leader. His time working in Washington probably helped develop this lack of “streetwise” experience, solely-one-goal-orientated type of personality, but it also seems to be a natural part of him. Even lightened up as he has recently grown, Krauss is still very formal and gentlemanly orientated. Still, if one knows him well enough and he finds an appropriate opportunity, the doctor might be willing to show his less “civilized” side and actually live a little. He’s not above making a small crack or two at dry humor. He’ll always say what is on his mind in as blunt and brief a manner as possible. He is very intellectually inclined, and enjoys a good book or heavy discussion. He is a study of the paranormal, the top man in ectoplasmic research. Johann is a methodical creature, usually (still) sticking to a strict adherence of protocol and form. He has a softer side for woman, a byproduct of his gentlemanly ways, and will do his best to make them feel comfortable and will show subtle signs of distress himself if they exude any sort of discomfort.
